Description
The Lagrein Elena Walch is a red wine of great personality, produced in Alto Adige, a wine region in northern Italy known for its extraordinary diversity of terroir. This wine is named after the native Lagrein grape, which thrives particularly well in the alpine and subalpine climate of this region. The vineyards from which Lagrein Elena Walch originates are located in the areas of Caldaro and Tramin, two areas that enjoy a mild and sunny climate, with hot summers and cold winters. These climatic conditions, along with the clay and gravel soils, contribute to creating a wine with a solid tannic structure and remarkable aromatic complexity. The production of Lagrein Elena Walch begins with the manual harvest of the grapes, which usually takes place at the end of September or early October. The grapes are then destemmed and placed in stainless steel tanks for fermentation at a controlled temperature. This process lasts about 10 days during which the must is regularly pumped over to promote the extraction of tannins and aromas from the grape skins. After fermentation, the wine is transferred to French oak barriques where malolactic fermentation occurs, a process that helps soften the tannins and develop further aromas and flavors. The wine is then aged in barriques for about 10-12 months before being bottled. Lagrein Elena Walch presents itself with an intense ruby red color and offers aromas of berries, plums, and sweet spices, with notes of chocolate and tobacco. On the palate, it is full, soft, and velvety, with well-integrated tannins and a long persistence. This wine pairs perfectly with red meat dishes, game, and aged cheeses. It can also be enjoyed on its own, as a meditation wine. Pairings: Lagrein Elena Walch is an intense and structured red wine from Alto Adige. This wine pairs perfectly with red meat dishes, such as a nice grilled beef fillet or a braised beef in red wine. Its structure and intensity also make it suitable for accompanying game dishes, such as a roast wild boar or venison. If you prefer cheeses, Lagrein Elena Walch pairs well with aged and intensely flavored cheeses, such as aged pecorino or spicy gorgonzola. As for first courses, this wine pairs splendidly with pasta dishes with meat sauces, such as beef or wild boar ragù. Risottos with porcini mushrooms or black truffle can also be an excellent pairing. Finally, if you are a fan of vegetarian cuisine, Lagrein Elena Walch can be paired with legume-based dishes, such as a lentil soup or a dish of chickpeas and spinach.
