Grapefruit and orange jam is a traditional homemade sweet, perfect for spreading on slices of bread or for filling cakes and cookies. The recipe dates back to ancient times and is made using only fresh grapefruits and oranges, which give the jam a balanced citrus flavor. Preparing it requires only a few steps and few ingredients, but the result is a jam with an intense and authentic taste.
Remove the peel from 3 grapefruits, taking off the outer skin first and then the inner white pith; place the pith to soak separately
Cut the remaining fruit into pieces and cover with water to soak
Squeeze the juice of 3 large oranges; cut the rest into pieces, soak overnight and then bring to a boil
Drain and add the orange pieces to the grapefruit pieces
Add more water just enough to cover and boil until the fruit is softened
Add the orange juice, measure its weight and add an equal quantity of sugar
Boil, stirring from time to time, until the jam is ready
Pour while still warm into jars, let cool and seal them as previously indicated
If you do not intend to use the jam immediately, you can also seal the jars by dripping liquid wax along the edge of the lid
