Peanut nougats are delicious honey and peanut candies, crunchy and with an irresistible flavor. Their origin dates back to ancient Rome, where they were considered a precious gift. Today they are popular worldwide and are often prepared during the Christmas holidays. Try this simple and delicious recipe!

Place the egg whites in a saucepan and beat them until stiff peaks form, adding three drops of lemon juice.
Then incorporate the honey, mixing gently so as not to deflate the egg whites, and place the saucepan over low heat: cook the mixture on very low heat for about 2 hours, continuously stirring with a wooden spoon.
After the indicated time, add the peanuts, one tablespoon of grated orange zest, and a pinch of powdered vanilla.
Mix everything well and transfer the mixture to a large baking pan lined with wax paper.
Level the surface with a knife blade, ensuring that a layer about 2 cm thick is formed.
Allow to cool.
When the nougat is well chilled, cut it into pieces.
If you do not consume the entire quantity prepared in one day, wrap the remaining nougat pieces one by one in aluminum foil and place them in a tin box where they will keep for up to six months.
--- TIPS
These delicious nougats can be prepared following the same procedure not only with peanuts but also with other types of dried fruit such as hazelnuts, almonds, and walnut halves used individually or mixed together.
