Sweet Cigars are delicious butter sweets, filled with a cream of whipped egg whites, sugar, and lemon. They are typical of Italian tradition and perfect to enjoy during a snack or after a meal.

Place the egg whites in a bowl and whip them until stiff peaks form, adding a few drops of lemon juice
Gently fold in the sifted sugar and flour, then add the melted and warm butter along with a pinch of powdered vanilla, mixing to combine all the ingredients well
Grease and flour the baking sheet, then place the batter in small mounds on it and spread each one with a spatula to create rectangles of 4x6 cm; bake in a preheated oven (200 degrees) for 4-5 minutes
When the pastry rectangles are golden, remove them from the baking sheet and while still warm, roll them around a wooden stick to form small cylinders
For perfect 'cigars', after rolling the pastry rectangles around the wooden sticks, tie them individually with a strip of cloth and keep them in shape until completely cool
If you wish to preserve these treats, store them once they are cool
