Sweet toasted slices are a delicious variation of classic toasted slices. These delightful crunchy cookies are perfect for a sweet breakfast or snack. Their preparation requires few ingredients and is simple to accomplish. Toasted hazelnuts and almonds provide a rich, enveloping flavor, while the candied cherries add a note of sweetness. Sweet toasted slices can be stored for several days and can be enjoyed alone or accompanied by jam or spreadable cream.

Peel the almonds and hazelnuts, toast them in the oven, and finely chop them; then place them on the work surface.
Combine the flour, yeast, sugar, softened butter, 4 whole eggs and one yolk, and the chopped candied cherries.
Work the ingredients until you achieve a homogeneous dough, divide it into four parts, and shape each into a log about 5 cm in diameter.
Place the four logs on a buttered and floured baking tray and bake at 170 degrees for 10 minutes.
After this time, remove the logs from the oven and slice them diagonally into pieces about one centimeter thick.
Arrange the slices on the tray and bake for an additional 5 minutes until they are a nice golden color.
If you wish to preserve these treats, allow them to cool completely, then place them in tin boxes interspersed with sheets of wax paper: they will stay fresh for about a month.
