Marsala Superiore Ambra Secco s.o.m Doc di Sicilia Packaging: 6 Bottles of 0.75 lt The Marsala Superiore Ambra Secco s.o.m Doc di Sicilia has a fascinating history. It is told that the English merchant John Woodhouse, in 1773, was looking for soda ash useful for soap production in England. A storm forced him to dock at the port of Marsala and in an inn he was literally conquered by the taste of the local wine. Later, his business acumen led him to bring a supply of this wine with added brandy for its preservation to the United Kingdom. The success of Marsala was such that it also encouraged Lord Horatio Nelson to purchase large quantities of wine for the sailors of his “Home Fleet”. At Trafalgar, in 1805, with Nelson, Marsala also won, and from that day on it became “The Victory Wine”. In 1806 another Englishman, Benjamin Ingham, arrived in Sicily looking for raw material for his family textile business. And having also sensed the great potential of Sicilian wine, he opened a winery and began successfully exporting the product to the Americas and distant Australia. Close your eyes for a moment and let the wind caress you and the sun warm you, breathe the air that surrounds you, full of scents: that of the sea, of Mediterranean vegetation, of the land. You can’t be wrong… You are in Marsala, the “land of wine” where our Marsala Superiore Ambra Secco s.o.m Doc di Sicilia is produced. No other Italian city can boast such a diverse wine production. With cunning and foresight, the English who landed there in the 1700s realized immediately that from the local grapes something very similar to the Spanish and Portuguese fortified wines could be obtained: that wine which later became famous all over the world under the name “Marsala”. In this land so devoted to viticulture, in 1997, our three families of winemakers decided to take over the brand “Cantine Vinci”, producer of the excellent Marsala Superiore Ambra Secco s.o.m Doc di Sicilia, and thus to begin a new adventure that saw them as the architects of transforming their grapes into wines of constant and undisputed quality. Transitioning from simple growers to winemakers was not easy, but the experience passed down from father to son over several generations helped us understand which clusters to obtain the best quality wine from, what the most suitable times for grape harvest were, and which soils were capable of enhancing the physiological and productive properties of the different cultivars. Producing high-quality grapes thus became the cornerstone from which to start producing wines of excellent quality such as Marsala Superiore Ambra Secco s.o.m Doc di Sicilia. Over time, the wisdom, the desire to learn, and the goal of producing great wines have been recognized and rewarded. Today, Cantine Vinci can boast important accolades obtained for the production of wines that, once tasted, are hard to forget. Characteristics: Grapes: Grillo (50%) and Catarratto (50%) Production area: Agro marsalese (as per specification 851 of 28/11/1984) Training system: Espalier with Guyot pruning Harvest period: August/September Vinification: In temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks (25/26°C); once the base wine is obtained, a “conciatura” is performed, which consists of adding wine alcohol, cooked must, and mistella to the starting product so that it can acquire that typical organoleptic and sensory complexity of Marsala wine. Color: Intense amber with golden reflections Odor: Intense and complex, dominated by notes reminiscent of white ripe fruit in spirit, walnuts, hazelnuts, bitter almonds, and pine nuts; the bouquet is enriched by delicate hints of oak, vanilla, and cinnamon. Taste: Dry, soft, velvety, with a pleasant return of the aromatic notes perceived in the nose. Alcohol content: 18% vol. Residual sugar: 30 grams/liter Aging in wood: Minimum 2 years in oak barrels Bottling aging: Minimum 3 months Pairing: Classic dessert wine that pairs well with traditional ricotta and almond sweets of island pastry, dried fruit, and with medium-aged cheeses produced artisanally in Sicily. Serving temperature: 14/16°C Available bottle format: 750 ml How to pair Marsala? The Marsala Superiore Ambra Secco s.o.m Doc di Sicilia is a meditation wine, to be enjoyed in a moment of relaxation. An aperitif or dinner with friends also changes the pairings for experts. So today Marsala is paired not only with classic pastries but also with foie gras and blue cheeses in the semi-dry type, while the virgin type goes well with smoked fish and aged cheeses. Some even venture to suggest pairing it with flavors such as those of pumpkin risotto, tripe soup up to the idea of a highly spiced suckling pig. Thus, Marsala renews itself and also approaches young people.
