Thanks to the clayey profile, the expression of the territory is enhanced, offering a particular richness both in taste and scent. THE WORK IN THE CELLAR: The enological approach to producing our Wine Terre della Baronia Dop Red Bio is characterized by an emphasis on the value of agronomic work, which is particularly characterized by careful green management and thinning of the bunches. Great attention is paid to maceration times and temperatures. Careful selection of woods to bring out the sensor profile so peculiar to our Wine Terre della Baronia Dop Red Bio. A FAMILY STORY: For the Milazzo family, producing wines is a true "family matter" that has made them the first producers of sparkling wines with the classic method in Sicily. A journey that continues under the sign of valorizing the company's tradition, with Giuseppina Milazzo and Saverio Lo Leggio, a couple in life, united in the desire to give continuity to Milazzo production. Among the first Sicilian grape growers, between the late 1970s and early 1980s, to enhance winemaking from native Sicilian grape varieties. This allowed, over the years, along with other excellent names, the recovery of the winemaking tradition of the island, without neglecting experimentation and innovation, which led to, among others, the adoption in Sicily of Chardonnay grapes, with the precise aim of producing a great Sicilian Classic Method sparkling wine. A SUSTAINABLE COMPANY: ISO and Organic Certifications. Being a sustainable company means accepting the challenge of continuous change, working well today to produce better tomorrow. Currently, it is also engaged in the program for the analysis of the carbon footprint throughout the production chain. We want to guarantee the quality of our work through a path that effectively combines low-impact cultivation techniques with innovation in the various stages of production of our wines and classic method sparkling wines. Our Steps Towards SUSTAINABILITY: Early '900 – Maria Costanza, a family ancestor, a strong and determined woman, personally dedicated herself to the cultivation of the vine and winemaking; she oversaw all stages of processing. A small winery in Campobello di Licata, but even then the wine produced was highly appreciated by the local clientele. In the post-war years, the production of table grapes was added to the production of wine grapes. By the end of the 1960s, new vineyards for wine grape production replaced the table grape cultivations, thus beginning a new phase in the family's history. The Azienda Agricola G. Milazzo was born, not simply to make wine and become a profitable company, but above all to be a company dedicated to the obsessive pursuit of quality and continuous improvement. 1982: registration of the brand “Martin Pescatore”, already used in the post-war years and until the early sixties for the marketing of table grapes in international markets. 2004: first certification: UNI ENI ISO 14001 for the activation of the Environmental Management System. 2007: the choice to always avoid the use of synthetic chemical substances began to be certified. This year marks the beginning of the mandatory conversion period that will lead to organic product certification, which will conclude in 2012. 2008: UNI EN ISO 9001 certification for the Quality Management System and UNI EN ISO 22005 for the Traceability of the production chain, which begins with fertilizations, pruning, and all work in the vineyards, to the production of wines in the cellar, and to deliveries to customers. 2012: Organic certification, which represented the achievement and at the same time the new starting point of our production journey, opening us to new challenges. Our Martin Pescatore brand is accompanied by the European organic brand. A journey that began in 2007 and ended in 2012, with the obtaining of the final certificate (Certificate no. 2500/I rev. 02). A commitment that concerns not only our 75 hectares of vineyards but the entire Milazzo property, which today counts about 110 total hectares. Every single parcel of the company, even those not planted with vines, is already certified or in the “conversion” phase to BIOLOGICAL CERTIFICATION. A fundamental choice, the only one that allows us, for the future, to continue planting vineyards in line with our motto: We guarantee the genuineness of our wines. 2013: a new challenge opens, that of reducing CO2 emissions (carbon) at every stage of production (from the field to the consumer). We decided to adhere to the Ita.Ca. protocol to develop a carbon footprint calculation tool, an international “calculator,” already used in Italy, Australia, California, and New Zealand, specifically adapted to the Italian model of grape and wine production by researchers and technicians from the SATA group and the University of Milan, in collaboration with Australian colleagues. 2013: participation in the tender issued by the Ministry of the Environment for the analysis of the carbon footprint of mass consumption products. Another completed step. Today we are among the 95 Italian companies from various production sectors and the only Sicilian wine company admitted to the program. (http://www.minambiente.it/pagina/il-bando-pubblico-2013) 2014: doing business, consuming and polluting less, represents a complex challenge from both a scientific and organizational point of view. But we are, first of all, men and women of the land, and we are convinced that we have only one choice: to protect the environment so that it can continue to give us healthy and good fruits. Within the Ministry's project, we are now engaged in obtaining ISO/TS 14067 Carbon footprint product certification (Certification system for the methodology for quantifying the product carbon footprint) that will validate the method by which we are collecting and analyzing data on our CO2 emissions, to then identify the best technical solutions for the effective reduction of our “Carbon footprint.” Discover our Wine Terre della Baronia Dop Red Bio available online in our shop at the best price.
