The Alto Adige Meranese Schiava DOC "Fürst" from Cantina Merano is a complex, delicate, and juicy red wine with fine tannins. Thanks to the careful use of wood in aging, the red Schiava “Fürst” is not afraid to compete with an excellent Pinot Noir. Above the town of Lagundo, nestled like a true jewel, lies a special vineyard, facing south, with a long and extraordinary history behind it. For generations, the traditional pergola system has been used to cultivate native Schiava grapevines in this steep slope, among ancient stone walls, which have rooted deeply over the years. Grape varieties: 100% Meranese Schiava. Soils: light, permeable, and of glacial origin. Age of vines: 15-45 years. Winemaking: Alcoholic fermentation at controlled temperature occurs in small stainless steel tanks. This is followed by malolactic fermentation and aging for one year in 5-hectoliter wooden tonneaux and small stainless steel tanks.
