The Rio Sordo Barbaresco DOCG 2017 from the Musso winery is a wine that originates from a vineyard of about one hectare located in the Geographical Mention "Rio Sordo", where the soil is decidedly calcareous and clayey and the beautiful south-west exposure makes a difference. Grape variety: 100% Nebbiolo. Soil: here the soil is compact, with a prevalence of limestone and a good presence of clay. Thus a soil is born that strongly contributes to the characterization of the wine, which has a firm structure and strong ability to withstand the challenges of time. Altitude: between 250 and 300 meters above sea level. Winemaking: the grape harvest is done manually with careful selection of the clusters. After crushing with the removal of the stalks, the must ferments in stainless steel tanks with a long maceration (18-20 days): the mass is kept with the cap emerged and is subjected to periodic pump-overs to improve the color endowment and the olfactory breadth. The fermentation temperature remains below 28-30°C. Maturation: at the end of the tumultuous fermentation, the racking is done. Thus, the new wine begins its maturation journey, spending the first 12 months in 50 hectoliter Slavonian oak barrels and the next 6 in smaller wooden containers (20 hectoliters). Bottling: after almost two years from vinification, in the summer of the second year after the harvest, the Barbaresco "Rio Sordo" is bottled. The darkness, silence, and virtually constant temperature of the underground cellars help the wine to undergo the first stages of aging in the bottle: thus it remains for at least 7-8 months in the cellar before reaching the market. Vintage: 2017. Alcohol content: 14.5%.
