Preheat the oven to about 190 degrees (be careful if you have a gas oven not to overheat it before baking) butter the baking sheets
With an electric mixer at medium speed, blend the butter with the sugars, add the egg and the vanilla
Sift the flour with the baking soda and salt, add the chocolate chips, the nuts and mix to obtain a homogeneous dough
Drop the dough by spoonfuls onto the baking sheet (5 cm apart); the amounts are for 24 cookies
Bake in the oven for 10-12 minutes until the cookies have a nice color
Let them cool on the sheets for 5 minutes then lift them with a spatula and transfer them to a rack to cool
They should be crispy on the outside and softer on the inside
