Fried zucchini and mozzarella is a delicious appetizer typical of Italian cuisine. The zucchinis are cut into rounds, soaked in milk flavored with nutmeg, breaded, and fried until golden. The stretchy inside and the crunchiness of the breading make this dish irresistible.
Peel the zucchinis, remove the ends, cut them into six long pieces, and then cut the pieces into 2 cm chunks.
In a deep plate, place the zucchini pieces, sprinkle with 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg, and lightly season with pepper.
Drizzle everything with milk and let it rest for at least thirty minutes.
After this time, pour some flour into a deep plate, add some salt and pepper, and mix.
Drain the zucchini pieces, carefully dry them with paper towels, and lightly coat them in flour.
Heat the frying oil to 180 degrees Celsius.
If you do not have a thermometer, check the temperature by throwing a piece of bread crust into the oil: it should brown in one minute.
Then immerse the zucchinis in the oil and let them cook for two minutes until they are well browned, then drain them on paper towels.
Keep warm.
In a deep plate, beat the egg using a fork.
Dip the eight slices of mozzarella in the flour, then immerse them in the beaten egg and finally in the breadcrumbs.
Fry them in hot oil in a pot different from the one in which you fried the zucchini pieces.
When they are golden on both sides, drain them and place them to dry on a sheet of paper towels.
Combine the zucchini and mozzarella on a serving plate and serve them hot.
You can serve this dish along with other fried and hot appetizers.
