Dissolve the sugar in the lukewarm water, stirring quickly.
Add the fresh juice of about 2 oranges, then the oil.
Sift the flour with the baking powder and add it to the liquid mixture.
Add the grated zest of one untreated orange and mix well until the batter is smooth and homogeneous.
Pour the batter into a greased and floured cake pan and bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (356°F) for about 40 minutes.
Remove from the oven and let cool.
