The simple strudel is a typical dessert of Austrian tradition, but it is also very popular in Italy, especially in the Trentino-Alto Adige region. It is characterized by a flaky pastry filled with apples, sultanas, and cinnamon. A delight to enjoy at any time of the day.
Place the flour in a mound, in the center put the melted butter, the egg, 6 tablespoons of water, a pinch of salt.
Work until you obtain an elastic dough and let it rest for half an hour.
In a bowl, cream the butter with the egg yolks and sugar, add the cream, breadcrumbs, sultanas (softened in warm water), diced apple, a pinch of cinnamon, grapes, and the egg whites beaten until stiff.
Roll out the dough into a thin rectangular sheet and spread the cream over it.
Roll it up, brush the surface with melted butter, place it on a buttered baking sheet, and bake at 220 degrees for about an hour.
Halfway through cooking, brush the dessert with milk.
Remove the strudel from the oven and sprinkle it generously with powdered sugar.
