Portunus spp, known as the blue crab, is a decapod crustacean of the family Portunidae. The legs are long and the claws are about twice the length of the carapace. The rear legs are flattened, as in spider crabs. The male is olive green with whitish spots on the surface; the female has reddish-brown claws instead of the blue found in males. The carapace can reach a maximum length of 7 cm.
