At the end of the 19th century, in Formentera the first industry for the production of alcoholic liqueurs in the Balearic Islands was born. As is known, many inhabitants of Formentera combined the jobs of fisherman, farmer and shepherd. However, one of them, Juan Marí Mayans, around 1880 had other priorities and, with his llaüt, made trips to Barcelona to supply the island with objects and utensils that did not exist there, where he learned the secrets of stills and the production of alcoholic beverages. It is thanks to this precise collection of formulas and recipes from past centuries and to the intensive study of the effects and benefits of the island's aromatic plants that we can enjoy the current liqueurs of the Marí Mayans family. To speak of Hierbas Ibicencas is to refer to the Marí Mayans family.
