As the quintessence of Hennessy, Hennessy Very Special is the flagship of the incredible art of the company’s distillery. It is the result of an ambitious selection process of balanced brandies with a subtle and refined character, from which a cognac that is a true delight has been produced. The choice. The selected brandies for Hennessy Very Special are extremely delicate but also possess character. They are in a wonderful balance: neither too strong nor too gentle, and they have the potential to further develop throughout their maturation. They captivate with subtly balanced aromas that wonderfully blend into each other over time while maintaining the typical characteristics of their origin, namely the immediately recognizable aromas of fresh grapes and vine flowers. These brandies are selected very early to give them the necessary time for maturation and development of their overall potential before being used to create one of the most incomparable cognacs in its category. Maturation. The maturation of Hennessy Very Special largely depends on the selection of new oak barrels from France. They give the cognac its intense expression. The maturation process is guided in the desired direction through the use of partially used barrels. This ensures the formation of warm and pleasant toasted notes that create a balance without dominating the overall effect of the blending. It is a very dynamic maturation process, during which the barrels are exchanged very frequently. The youngest brandies are aged for 2 years. During this period, they are exposed to oxygen at regular intervals to support the formation of their typical aromas of crème brulée and brown sugar. Their vanilla notes give the cognac a creamy flavor and accentuate the fruit. Blending. Blending is the final step in creating Hennessy Very Special. It does not serve to create aromas, but to develop the very particular characteristics of the cognac in terms of balance and consistency. The master blender and his tasting committee select certain brandies that, during maturation and under optimal conditions in new barrels, have reached the highest point of their expressive power and have fully developed their delightful toasted notes. This base assembly is completed with additional brandies from the reserves of the extraordinary house of Hennessy, which, thanks to their fruity or floral style, help create an absolutely perfect composition. Appearance transparent and bright, a splendid amber tone. Aroma. The initial notes of toasted fresh bread, toasted almonds, and brown sugar are followed by a second complementary note of subtle grape aromas. Flavor. The aromatic intensity of the cognac is reflected in its tasty, creamy flavor, which is surprised by a vanilla dimension. It is rounded off by a particularly fresh and floral aftertaste.
