BAROLO DOCG 2015 CEREQUIO CRU - 0.75 L

Located between the municipalities of La Morra and Barolo, Cerequio is considered one of the most prestigious crus of Barolo. A splendid amphitheater of vineyards where soils, exposure, and microclimate contribute to creating exceptional Barolos. "Chosen position," as described in 1880 by Lorenzo Fantini, author of the first monograph on viticulture in the province of Cuneo, it was included by Renato Ratti among the "First Category" crus in the famous Barolo Map of 1965, the basis of today's classification in MGA, or Additional Geographical Mentions, which indicates this area as of "absolute prestige." Due to its favorable position, protected from the winds, Cerequio is called the "Riviera of the Langhe." Here Michele Chiarlo manages nine hectares planted with Nebbiolo for Barolo, about 6 of which were acquired in 1988 from an estate that had cultivated them continuously for over two centuries. From the oldest and very small parcel (1972, 0.9 Ha), only in exceptional years, we obtain the Barolo Cerequio Riserva, a very small and exclusive enological gem. Finally, nestled among the rows, stands Palás Cerequio by Michele Chiarlo, the first relais dedicated to the Barolo crus, born from the restoration of an 18th-century noble palace. GRAPE VARIETY: Nebbiolo MUNICIPALITY: Barolo and La Morra EXTENSION: 9 Ha EXPOSURE: South, southwest ALTITUDE: 320 m a.s.l. YEAR OF PLANTING: 1972-1990 SOIL: The soils of Cerequio are among the oldest in the Langhe. Of Tortonian formation (about 9 million years), they are composed of calcareous-clay marls of marine sedimentary origin, characterized by basic pH, poor in organic substances but rich in microelements such as magnesium and manganese. They give wines of great character and balance: austere, structured, elegant, in harmony between finesse and aromaticity. SUSTAINABILITY AND TERRITORY CARE: The Cru Cerequio is part of the V.I.V.A. "Sustainable Wine" project that Michele Chiarlo has adopted to improve and monitor his environmental impact and sustainability throughout the supply chain. UNESCO CORE ZONE: The Cru Cerequio is located within one of the 6 core zones that make up Italy's fiftieth UNESCO site: The Vineyard Landscapes of Langhe-Roero and Monferrato, declared a World Heritage Site in 2014.
