The Neapolitan Casatiello is one of the most traditional baked goods of the Neapolitan food and wine culture. The Rosa Maria Vittoria Bakery revives an ancient recipe from an important Neapolitan culinary master, Salvatore Esposito, famous for preparing one of Queen Elizabeth of England's wedding cakes in 1947. The Casatiello is typically an Easter savory pie, but the Molise bakery offers it all year round! Casatiello: the recipe without eggs In the past, culinary art was not shared as it is today, and many recipes were secret. Salvatore Esposito kept each recipe as a precious jewel, and only some were passed down to his children. His granddaughter, once she became part of the Rosa Maria Vittoria family by marrying her son, thus gifted the Molise bakery with the precious Casatiello recipe. Salvatore Esposito was against the hard-boiled eggs that adorned the rustic pie, partly for hygiene reasons and partly because they broke during transport. The Rosa Maria Vittoria Bakery has thus decided to faithfully reproduce Salvatore Esposito's original Casatiello.
