Tomato Meatballs are a traditional dish of Italian cuisine, particularly popular in Southern Italy. The meatballs, made with ground meat, stale bread, Parmigiano or Pecorino cheese, garlic, and parsley, are cooked in a delicious tomato sauce enriched with basil. The meatballs are succulent, aromatic, and perfect to serve as an appetizer or main course.
Remove the crust from the bread and soak it in water or milk; squeeze it well and add it to the meat, eggs, grated cheese, finely chopped garlic, and parsley.
Add salt and pepper and mix well. Meanwhile, prepare a tomato sauce with onion and basil. Fry the meatballs in plenty of oil and place them in a relatively shallow dish covered with the sauce which should be quite liquid.
Let the meatballs soak in the tomato sauce on low heat for 10-15 minutes; the sauce will thicken just right.
Garnish with freshly chopped parsley. Serve hot and enjoy!
