Mussels au gratin is a delicious seafood dish typical of Mediterranean cuisine. The mussels are opened and seasoned with grated Parmesan cheese, breadcrumbs, garlic, and parsley, then baked until a golden and crispy crust is formed. This dish is perfect to serve as a main course during a special dinner or as an appetizer.
Wash and scrape the mussels very well to remove any encrustations
Rinse several times under running water
Place them in a high-sided pan without water, cover, and put on high heat, allowing them to open with the steam
When the mussels are open, remove the empty half shells and place those with the mollusk in a large baking dish, well spread out
In a bowl, mix well the Parmesan, breadcrumbs, chopped parsley and garlic, egg, a pinch of salt, and pepper
Fill the mussels with this mixture and sprinkle them with a handful of breadcrumbs
Add a few tablespoons of their water left in the pan, filtered through a cloth, to the baking dish
Bake them in a hot oven at 200 degrees for about 15 minutes and serve them very hot
