Using electric beaters, work the soft butter with the sugar for a few minutes.
Add the eggs one at a time, continuing to mix.
Add the vanilla, sour cream, pinch of salt, and beer.
Sift the flour with the baking powder and cocoa, then add them to the mixture.
Pour the batter into a 24 cm pan lined with parchment paper.
Bake in a preheated oven at 170 degrees Celsius for 60 minutes. Perform the toothpick test to check for doneness.
Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool completely.
Serve the cake plain or garnished with lightly sweetened whipped cream.
