Sicilian Honey of Astragalus, produced in the Palermo mountains in June. The liquid state color is almost absent; if pure, it does not crystallize. It is a rare honey, from high mountains (about 1800 m), with a very light odor and a delicate taste. It is rich in fructose and is metabolized at the hepatic level, where it constitutes an important energy reserve. Awards include: Avvinando Winefest G. Lo Sicco Award, October 2011; R. Franci Competition in Montalcino (Siena), year 2002; Honey Production Competition of the Mediterranean in Sortino (Syracuse), year 2001. Producer: Carlo Amodeo. The passion for honey has almost accidentally transformed Carlo Amodeo's personal interest into an excellence bee farming business, which now counts about 1,500 hives distributed throughout Sicily. At the foot of the San Calogero Park, the activity develops over three laboratories, one of which is entirely powered by solar and photovoltaic energy, for a zero-impact and environmentally friendly production. For over twenty years, Amodeo has worked with the Sicilian honeybee, unique in the world and selected in purity in collaboration with important research institutes. Rustic, resilient, and capable of adapting even to extreme conditions, this subspecies guarantees effective pollination and extraordinary quality honeys. Carlo Amodeo's honey is also made possible thanks to the bees that practice nomadism, following flowers in the various territories of Sicily to collect the best of each season. Sicilian Honey of Astragalus is sold online in our shop www.emporiosicilia.it.
