Poggio alle Nane is a high-quality wine produced in the Maremma Toscana region, specifically at the Le Mortelle estate, which covers about 270 hectares near Castiglione della Pescaia. This area, located in the heart of Maremma, features a mild climate with abundant rainfall during winter and autumn, and warm but breezy temperatures in summer. The soils from which the grapes for Poggio alle Nane are derived are predominantly sandy, with skeletal presence and rich in minerals, giving the wine a particular minerality and freshness. The grapes used are Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and a small percentage of Petit Verdot, which contribute to creating a wine of great structure and complexity. The production of Poggio alle Nane follows traditional methods, with manual harvesting of fully ripe grapes. This is followed by fermentation in steel tanks at controlled temperature, with maceration on the skins for about 20-25 days. The aging takes place in French oak barriques, where the wine matures for about 18 months. Subsequently, the wine is bottled and left to age for an additional 12 months before being released. The result is a wine of great elegance and complexity, with notes of ripe red fruit, spices, and a slight toasted scent. On the palate, it is full, round, and persistent, with soft and well-integrated tannins. It pairs perfectly with red meat dishes, game, and aged cheeses.
