Rosso di Montalcino DOC is a red wine produced in the area of the municipality of Montalcino, in Tuscany. The territory of Montalcino is characterized by hills and valleys that offer an ideal microclimate for vine cultivation, with an altitude ranging from 150 to 500 meters above sea level. Col d'Orcia is one of the most renowned wineries in the area and produces an excellent Rosso di Montalcino. The vineyards of Col d'Orcia cover an area of about 540 hectares, of which 142 are dedicated to the cultivation of Sangiovese, the main grape used for the production of Rosso di Montalcino. This variety of Sangiovese is locally known as "Brunello" and produces wines of great structure and complexity. The production process of Rosso di Montalcino begins with the manual harvest of Sangiovese grapes, which generally takes place between September and October. After crushing and fermentation, the wine is aged in oak barrels for at least 12 months, followed by a further period of aging in the bottle before being marketed. Rosso di Montalcino DOC Col d'Orcia presents an intense ruby red color, with complex aromas of red fruits and spices. On the palate, it is elegant, with well-integrated tannins and a pleasant freshness. It pairs perfectly with meat dishes, aged cheeses, and traditional Tuscan dishes such as ribollita or pappa al pomodoro. Pairings: Rosso di Montalcino DOC Col d'Orcia is a Tuscan red wine of great structure and intensity, which pairs perfectly with red meat and game dishes. A classic pairing could be with herb-roasted pork, where the succulence of the meat and the aroma of the herbs balance with the robustness of the wine. Another interesting pairing could be with pasta with wild boar ragù. The strong and wild taste of the boar blends with the complexity of the wine, creating a very pleasant combination of flavors. For cheese lovers, Rosso di Montalcino DOC Col d'Orcia pairs well with aged cheeses such as Pecorino Toscano. The intense and slightly spicy taste of the cheese contrasts with the softness of the wine, creating a balance of flavors. Finally, for a bolder pairing, it could be tried with sautéed porcini mushrooms. The earthy taste of the mushrooms matches the notes of red fruit in the wine, creating an interesting and tasty contrast. Storage: Store between 14-18°C Alcohol content: 14.5% Vintage: 2022
